Premier Northwest Territories Log Home and Cabin Restoration Services
At Frontier Log Home Restoration, we provide professional media blasting, staining, maintenance, repair, and full log home restoration services throughout the NWT.
With over two decades of experience restoring log homes across Canada and the United States, we understand how subarctic conditions affect wood performance. Our restoration systems are specifically adapted for cold climates, freeze-thaw movement, and remote project logistics.
Every project falls into one — and often several — of our five primary service areas.
Log Home Media Blasting
Proper surface preparation is critical in northern climates like the NWT’s.
Repeated freeze-thaw cycles and moisture retention can cause coating failure and surface degradation. Our professional media blasting systems:
- Remove failing stain and coatings
- Strip UV-damaged wood fibers
- Eliminate mold and contaminants
- Prepare logs for proper stain penetration
In northern environments, correct preparation ensures long-term coating adhesion and durability.
Log Home Staining
Extreme temperature swings require high-performance protective coatings.
We apply stain systems designed to:
- Resist moisture intrusion
- Protect against UV exposure during long summer daylight hours
- Reduce checking and cracking
- Extend the lifespan of your log structure
Proper staining is critical to protect logs from moisture expansion and contraction in cold climates.
Log Home Maintenance
Preventative maintenance is essential in remote regions.
Our maintenance services include:
- Cleaning and recoat services
- Sealant and caulking inspection
- Seasonal protection planning
- Early-stage damage detection
Because repair logistics in remote areas can be complex, proactive maintenance helps reduce long-term costs.
Log Repair
Northern exposure can accelerate deterioration if left untreated.
We provide:
- Rot removal and structural wood repair
- Partial and full log replacement
- Stabilization of compromised sections
- Wildlife and environmental damage repair
Addressing structural issues early is especially important where access windows may be limited by weather conditions.
Full Log Home Restoration
When stain systems fail completely or structural issues are advanced, a full restoration may be required.
This may include:
- Media blasting
- Log repair and reinforcement
- Chinking and sealing
- Complete staining and protective finishing
We coordinate logistics carefully for remote properties, ensuring efficiency and thorough execution.
Built for Northern Conditions
The Northwest Territories presents unique environmental pressures:
- Prolonged sub-zero winters
- Heavy snow accumulation
- Rapid spring thaw cycles
- Intense summer daylight exposure
- Limited construction seasons
Our restoration approach accounts for these factors to maximize durability and long-term protection.

Frequently Asked Questions?
How many years experience you have?
Since 2000, we have restored, refurbished and protected hundreds of log and timber home structures across the US and Canada, in just about every setting imaginable. We restore between thirty to forty log structures every year. As a result of this experience and knowledge, we are able to provide our clients with an honest, easy and straight forward experience.
How do I know if my log house needs to be restored?
We look at the wood species, age and condition of the logs for signs of weather and UV damage as well as possible mold, mildew or rotting wood. Once a thurough review of the structure is completed, we will provide you with our unbiased, professional opinion, as to how to best protect your home as cost effectively as possible.
How much does it cost to restore a log home or cabin in North West Territories?
There is no simple answer. It will depend on the state of the existing logs and wood, the age and condition of the logs, the extent of any weather or UV damage as well as possible mold, mildew or rotting wood. We provide you and estimates free of charge. In many cases this can be done by submitting high quality photos of the building or structure.
